Police Arrest Suspect with Suspected Stolen Motorcycle at Zengebe Ferry Crossing

Police in the Savannah Region have arrested a suspect who was allegedly found in possession of a motorcycle believed to have been stolen, following a joint security operation at Zengebe Ferry Crossing.

According to police, the operation was launched after security agencies received a tip-off and acted on an earlier theft report filed at Nansana Police Station under reference number Nansana 06/28/05/2026.

Officers attached to Lwampanga Town Council Police Station, working alongside personnel from the Zengebe Marine Detachment, deployed at the ferry crossing and conducted surveillance aimed at intercepting the suspect.

Savannah Regional Police spokesperson ASP Sam Twiineamazima said the suspect was arrested at approximately 5:00 p.m. after arriving at the ferry crossing while riding the motorcycle that had been reported stolen.

“The suspect was immediately intercepted and arrested by the security team,” Twiineamazima said.

Police investigations revealed that CCTV footage had earlier captured the suspect, providing crucial leads that guided officers during the operation.

Preliminary findings suggest that the suspect was allegedly transporting the motorcycle to Kalaki District when he was intercepted by security personnel.

The motorcycle was recovered and secured as evidence, while the suspect was taken into custody at Lwampanga Town Council Police Station, where he remains detained pending further investigations.

Police have not yet disclosed the identity of the suspect, citing ongoing inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the alleged theft and the intended destination of the motorcycle.

“We continue to investigate the matter to establish all the facts and determine whether other individuals may have been involved,” Twiineamazima added.

Authorities have urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspected criminal activities to security agencies to help combat motorcycle theft and related crimes.
