KAMPALA, Uganda – Police in Kampala have made a significant breakthrough in the investigation of a high-profile robbery that was captured on CCTV and widely shared on social media following an attack at Nsambya Junction along Ggaba Road.
The robbery occurred on May 6, 2026, at around 11:30 a.m., when a group of boda boda riders allegedly attacked the manager of Riverside Forex Bureau shortly after he had exchanged cash. During the violent incident, the victim was reportedly kicked and beaten before the assailants made off with Shs45 million.
The CCTV footage of the attack quickly went viral online, sparking public outrage and renewed concerns over the safety of individuals handling large sums of money in Kampala.
In a statement issued on Friday, Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire said ongoing investigations had led to the recovery of a motorcycle believed to have been used during the robbery.
According to police, a motorcycle bearing registration number UMA 655GK was recovered, but investigators established that the number plate had been forged in an attempt to conceal the identity of the motorcycle involved in the crime.
“Today, June 12, police arrested Yudah Kamoga, also known as ‘Sparta’, and Arnold Kayabula, a boda boda rider, in connection with the robbery. A motorcycle registration number UMA 602KK, believed to be linked to the case, was also recovered,” Owoyesigyire said.
Police revealed that the two suspects remain in custody as detectives continue gathering evidence to determine their exact roles in the robbery and identify additional accomplices who may have participated in the attack.
Authorities have reassured the public of their commitment to ensuring that all individuals connected to the robbery are arrested and prosecuted.
The latest arrests mark a major step forward in the investigation as security agencies intensify efforts to dismantle criminal networks involved in violent robberies across Kampala.
Investigations into the Nsambya Junction robbery remain ongoing.
