Kampala Police Arrest Suspect Linked to Robberies in Kyaliwajjala as Hunt for Accomplices Continues
Police in Kampala have arrested a suspect believed to be connected to a series of robberies in Kyaliwajjala, marking a significant breakthrough in ongoing efforts to combat violent crime in the metropolitan area.
The suspect, identified as James Lule, was apprehended following investigations into a recent robbery incident in Kyaliwajjala B Zone, where a victim was attacked and robbed of his mobile phone.
According to police, the arrest followed intelligence-led investigations that linked Lule to criminal activities that have been reported in Kyaliwajjala and surrounding areas. Security officers tracked and arrested the suspect in Kyaliwajjala Kapeera during an operation conducted by detectives attached to Kira Police Division.
Victim Left in Critical Condition
Police reports indicate that the latest robbery occurred in Nabwojjo, Kyaliwajjala B Zone, where 23-year-old Daniel Tenywa, a resident of Kiwanga in Mukono District, was allegedly attacked with a blunt object before being robbed of his mobile phone.
The victim sustained serious injuries during the attack and remains hospitalized in critical condition as medical teams continue to provide treatment.
Investigators say evidence gathered during the inquiry linked the suspect to the violent robbery, leading to his arrest.
Police Pursue Additional Suspects
Authorities have revealed that investigations are still ongoing, with detectives actively pursuing other suspects believed to have participated in the robbery and related criminal activities.
Police believe the arrested suspect may be part of a wider criminal network responsible for a number of robberies targeting residents and pedestrians in the Kyaliwajjala and Namugongo areas.
Security agencies have intensified operations against street robberies and violent crime across the Kampala Metropolitan Area, resulting in several arrests and recoveries of stolen property in recent months.
Public Urged to Remain Vigilant
Police have urged members of the public to remain vigilant, avoid moving alone in isolated areas at night, and report suspicious individuals or criminal activities to nearby police stations.
Authorities also encouraged victims of robbery incidents to come forward with information that could assist ongoing investigations and help identify additional suspects.
The arrested suspect remains in police custody pending further investigations and possible prosecution.
