Moses Matovu Murder Case: Vincent Nsamba Remanded to Luzira as Police Continue Investigation

Vincent Arnold Nsamba, the man accused in connection with the death of veteran Afrigo Band leader Moses Matovu, has been remanded to Luzira Upper Prison as police continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the musician’s death.

Nsamba, 47, also known as Sitenda, appeared before the Makindye Chief Magistrate’s Court on Monday and was formally charged with murder.

He was remanded to Luzira Upper Prison until November 3, 2026, when the case is expected to return to court for mention.

Nsamba Charged With Murder

The court appearance marked a major development in the investigation into the death of Matovu, the long-serving leader of Afrigo Band.

Matovu died last Thursday after reportedly sustaining serious injuries during an early-morning confrontation at Kibuli Market Zone B in Makindye Division, Kampala.

When the murder charge was read to him, Nsamba appeared composed in the dock and told the court that he had heard and understood the charge.

However, Senior Magistrate Aidah Nanjala cautioned him against making further comments because the magistrate’s court does not have jurisdiction to try a capital offence such as murder.

The magistrate also informed Nsamba that he could apply for bail before the High Court.

He was further informed that state-provided legal representation would be available during the proceedings before he was remanded to Luzira Upper Prison.

Rose Tumusiime Returned to CID

As Nsamba was taken to Luzira, Rose Tumusiime, the woman who was reportedly with Matovu shortly before the fatal confrontation, was also brought before court.

However, Tumusiime was not charged.

Instead, security officers took her back into custody and returned her to the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) headquarters in Kibuli for further questioning.

Police have not charged Tumusiime with murder or any other offence.

Her return to CID indicates that investigators are continuing to treat her as an important witness and person of interest as they reconstruct the events leading to Matovu’s death.

Being questioned by police does not amount to a conviction or establish that Tumusiime participated in the killing.

Police Investigating Events Before Matovu’s Death

Detectives are working to establish what happened before, during and after the confrontation that left Matovu critically injured.

Investigators are also examining the circumstances surrounding Matovu’s presence at Tumusiime’s residence in the early hours of Thursday.

Police are reportedly interested in understanding the relationship between Tumusiime and Nsamba and how the events unfolded before the confrontation at Kibuli Market Zone B.

The investigation remains ongoing, and additional statements and evidence could determine whether further charges are brought in connection with the musician’s death.

Moses Matovu’s Death

Matovu was a veteran figure in Uganda’s music industry and served for many years as the leader of Afrigo Band, one of the country’s longest-running musical groups.

His death has drawn attention from fans, musicians and the wider Ugandan entertainment industry.

The murder case against Nsamba is still at an early stage. The prosecution will be required to establish its case through the judicial process, while Nsamba remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty by a competent court.
