Police Arrest ‘Chicken Chicken’ Over Alleged Damage to Toyota Mark X in Kawempe

KAMPALA – Police in Kawempe have arrested a man identified as Katongole Anthony, popularly known as “Chicken Chicken,” over allegations of maliciously damaging a motor vehicle following an incident that gained widespread attention on social media.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Rachael Kawala, the suspect was taken into custody on June 25, 2026, after a video circulated online allegedly showing him vandalising a Toyota Mark X, registration number UBM 696S.

The vehicle is reportedly owned by Sali Sharif, commonly known as “Shawa Shawa.” The footage, which was widely shared across multiple social media platforms, sparked public debate and prompted police to launch investigations into the incident.

“The suspect identified as Katongole Anthony alias ‘Chicken Chicken’ was arrested in connection with malicious damage to a motor vehicle,” Kawala said.

Police say inquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine the motive behind the alleged destruction of the vehicle.

Authorities have urged members of the public to resolve disputes through lawful channels rather than resorting to acts of violence or property destruction.

The Uganda Police Force noted that malicious damage to property is a criminal offence under Ugandan law and may result in prosecution and penalties upon conviction.

Investigators are currently gathering evidence and recording statements from relevant witnesses as part of the ongoing probe.

Police have not yet confirmed whether Katongole has formally been charged before court, with investigations still underway.
