TikToker Remanded Over Alleged Shs7 Billion Theft Claim Involving Hadijah Namyalo

KAMPALA — A 35-year-old TikToker and blogger has been remanded to prison after being accused of spreading false information on social media claiming that Shs7 billion had been stolen from Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye, the head of the Office of the National Chairman (ONC) of the National Resistance Movement (NRM).

Abdallah Bogere, who is popularly known online as “True Leader,” appeared before Buganda Road Chief Magistrate Ritah Neumbe Kidasa on Friday, August 7, 2026.

Bogere was charged with sending false distress signals, an offence under Section 82 of the Uganda Communications Act. He denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty.

TikToker Accused of Making Shs7 Billion Theft Claims

According to the prosecution, Bogere and other people who are still at large allegedly transmitted false information through TikTok between August 3 and August 4, 2026.

The state alleges that the information was shared through TikTok accounts using the handles @trueleader123 and @Planned Mulekwa.

In the videos, Bogere allegedly claimed that he and his alleged accomplices had stolen Shs7 billion from Hadijah Namyalo, who heads the Office of the National Chairman of the NRM.

The allegations have not been proven in court, and Bogere remains presumed innocent unless convicted.

Police Investigations Nearing Completion

Chief State Attorney Joan Keko told court that police investigations into the matter were almost complete.

She asked the court for more time to allow the prosecution to receive an update on the final stage of the investigations before proceeding with the case.

The state also opposed having Bogere’s bail application handled immediately, saying investigators needed time to verify information presented by his defence team.

Defence Applies for Bail

Bogere’s lawyer, Lydia Nakimpi, asked the court to release her client on bail.

The defence presented three proposed sureties, including Bogere’s wife, Farihah Namayanja, businesswoman Zebia Juuko Lwantale, and Aisha Bahati, a shoe trader and Kampala Central Division Woman Councillor.

The defence argued that the proposed sureties were substantial enough and asked the magistrate to exercise her discretion and grant Bogere temporary freedom.

However, the prosecution requested time to verify the identities and backgrounds of the proposed sureties.

Court Remands Bogere Until August 17

After hearing both sides, Chief Magistrate Ritah Neumbe Kidasa remanded Bogere to prison.

The court adjourned the matter until August 17, 2026, when the prosecution is expected to respond to the bail application after completing verification of the proposed sureties.

Bogere, who described himself in court as a social media content creator and businessman, also told the court that he works with Senior Presidential Advisor Peace Mugamba.

Case Draws Attention to Social Media Claims

The case highlights the growing scrutiny of social media content in Uganda, particularly claims involving prominent political figures and large sums of money.

Authorities have increasingly warned that people who knowingly circulate false information through digital platforms can face criminal proceedings.

For now, the alleged Shs7 billion theft claim involving Hadijah Namyalo remains the subject of court proceedings, with further developments expected when Bogere returns to Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s Court on August 17.
