Kasese Police Hunt Two Suspects After Woman’s Ear Is Cut Off During Alleged Rape Attempt

KASESE, UGANDA — Police in Kasese District have launched a manhunt for two men accused of attacking a 29-year-old woman, attempting to rape her and cutting off her right ear during a violent late-night incident.

The victim, identified as Moreen Masika, a resident of Kidodo Cell in Railway Ward, Central Division, Kasese Municipality, was attacked at around 1:15am on Thursday while travelling on a motorcycle with her brother-in-law.

According to police, the attackers allegedly placed stones across the road, forcing the motorcycle to stop. One of the suspects, who was reportedly wearing a black mask, then emerged from nearby bushes and confronted Masika.

Police spokesperson ASP Maate Elly said the suspect allegedly threatened to kill and rape the woman before attempting to sexually assault her.

Woman bites suspect during struggle

Police said Masika resisted the alleged attack and fought with the suspect.

During the struggle, the suspect reportedly attempted to kiss her, prompting the woman to bite his tongue.

Maate said the suspect subsequently picked a sharp object from his bag and allegedly used it to cut off the woman’s right ear.

“As the suspect tried to kiss the victim, she bit his tongue. He then picked a sharp object from his bag and cut off her right ear,” Maate said.

Meanwhile, the second suspect reportedly engaged Masika’s brother-in-law, who was riding the motorcycle, in a physical struggle.

The attack was reportedly interrupted when another boda boda rider approached the scene, causing the two suspects to flee.

Police identify possible suspect

Police said the motorcycle rider who arrived at the scene was able to identify one of the fleeing suspects as another boda boda rider.

The suspected attacker is believed to be a resident of Kidodo Cell, where investigators are now focusing part of their search.

Police have launched investigations aimed at identifying and arresting both suspects.

Victim admitted to hospital

Masika was rushed to St Mary’s Hospital following the attack, where she remains admitted for treatment.

Police officers later visited the scene and documented evidence as part of the ongoing investigation. The victim’s severed ear was also recovered and taken to the Kasese Municipality Health Centre mortuary.

Police said investigations are continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the attack and identify all those involved.

“The suspects fled when another boda boda rider approached the scene. Investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest all those involved,” Maate said.

Police appeal for information

Police have appealed to members of the public who may have information about the suspects or the attack to report to the nearest police station.

Authorities said information from residents, particularly those familiar with boda boda operators in the area, could help investigators trace the suspects and bring them to justice.

The incident has raised concern over nighttime security along roads in Kasese, particularly for motorcycle passengers travelling during the early hours of the morning.
