Tear gas proves it’s not a boomerang
A man suffered a severe hand injury after trying to throw a tear gas canister back at police during a protest, authorities confirmed — proving that tear gas isn’t meant to be played catch.
Police say the incident happened when officers deployed tear gas to disperse the crowd. The man reportedly picked up one of the canisters and attempted to toss it back toward the officers. Unfortunately for him, the canister exploded in his hand. Emergency services rushed him to a local hospital for treatment.
“This is a serious reminder that tear gas canisters are dangerous and not meant for recycling,” a police spokesperson said.
While protests continued, authorities urged civilians to stay safe and avoid handling any law enforcement devices. Social media users quickly noted the irony: trying to return a tear gas canister rarely ends well.
The man is receiving care, and police continue to investigate the circumstances. In the meantime, many observers are sharing the incident as a cautionary — and slightly darkly humorous — reminder that tear gas is not a toy.
