Over 200 Suspects Arrested in Kampala Metropolitan Security Crackdown

Joint security agencies operating within the Kampala Metropolitan Area have arrested more than 200 suspects following coordinated intelligence-led operations conducted between May 20 and May 21, 2026.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala, the operations targeted crime-prone areas across KampalaWakiso District, and Mukono District amid rising concerns over drug abuse, mugging, and robbery incidents.

The joint operations involved security teams conducting overnight raids and patrols in several areas, including Clock Tower, Kinyoro, and Kitende Zone in Makindye Division; Kalerwe in Kawempe Division; KKB Cell, Mutungo, and Kitende Wards in Wakiso District; as well as Wantoni, Nabuti, and Ngandu in Mukono Central Division.

During the security crackdown, officers reportedly recovered suspected opium, housebreaking implements, identity cards believed not to belong to the suspects, and several money transfer cards.

“Joint security agencies remain committed to intensifying operations aimed at combating crime and enhancing public safety within the Kampala Metropolitan Area,” SP Kawala said.

Authorities said all suspects are currently being held in custody pending screening, interrogation, and court proceedings.

The latest operation forms part of ongoing efforts by joint security agencies to curb criminal activity, dismantle suspected gangs, and improve public safety across the greater Kampala metropolitan region.

Security agencies have indicated that similar intelligence-led operations will continue in identified crime hotspots as authorities respond to increasing public concerns over urban crime and insecurity.
