Sheebah Karungi Says She Is Honoured to Have Had a Child With a ‘Real Man’
Ugandan singer Sheebah Karungi has opened up about her decision to become a mother, saying she is proud to have had a child with a man she considers a responsible and present father.
Sheebah made the remarks while discussing motherhood and her family life on her podcast, where she explained that her decision to have a child was carefully considered and was not driven by financial dependence on a man.
The singer said she deliberately took her time before choosing the father of her child because she wanted her son to grow up with an involved father.
“I am honoured that I gave birth to a real man,” Sheebah said, explaining that her decision was not motivated by desperation or the search for someone to provide for her financially.
Sheebah Says Her Childhood Influenced Her Decision
Sheebah revealed that her own experience growing up without a father influenced the kind of family environment she wanted for her child.
According to the singer, she wanted her son to have a father who would be present in his life and provide the fatherly presence she did not experience while growing up.
“I was looking for someone who was going to be a father and a father I never had because I grew up not having one,” she said.
Sheebah also praised fathers who actively participate in raising their children, arguing that responsible fatherhood should not be measured by financial wealth.
“Being a responsible father doesn’t need you to be rich,” she said.
Sheebah Praises Her Child’s Father
The singer’s comments were also seen as an appreciation of her child’s father, Jaffar Suleiman, whom she has previously spoken about in relation to their son, Amir.
Sheebah welcomed her son Amir in November 2024. Jaffar later publicly confirmed that he is the father of her child, according to previous reports.
Sheebah has generally kept her private and family life away from extensive public scrutiny, although she has occasionally shared moments involving her son.
In September 2026, for example, she shared an emotional moment surrounding Amir’s first day at preschool, highlighting the role his father continues to play in his life.
Sheebah Addresses Criticism Over Her Family
The singer also addressed criticism surrounding her decision to have a child with a man who already had children.
Sheebah questioned why her situation attracted significant public attention, arguing that families with half-siblings are common in Uganda.
“Most Ugandan families have half-siblings and they’re doing just fine,” she said, adding that her situation appeared unusual to some people largely because she is a well-known public figure.
Sheebah said celebrities can sometimes face intense judgment over personal decisions that are otherwise common in society.
Sheebah’s New Chapter as a Mother
Motherhood has marked a significant new chapter in Sheebah Karungi’s life.
After welcoming Amir in 2024, the singer took a break from some of her regular music activities before making her return to the stage with her “Return of the Queen” concert in 2025.
Her latest comments provide more insight into how she views motherhood, responsible fatherhood and the decisions she made before having her first child.
For Sheebah, the central issue is not simply financial provision but the presence, responsibility and commitment of a father in a child’s life.
