Ronald Balimwezo Appoints Faridah Nakabugo Kampala Deputy Lord Mayor

New Kampala City Lord Mayor Ronald Balimwezo has appointed Faridah Nakabugo as the Deputy Lord Mayor of Kampala, marking one of the first major decisions of his administration.

Nakabugo, who was elected on the National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket as Lubaga II councillor, has also been named Secretary for Administration and Human Resources. The role places her at the center of Kampala Capital City Authority’s internal management, staffing, and administrative operations.

The appointments were announced on Monday at City Hall, where Balimwezo unveiled a four-member executive committee that includes three women in key leadership positions.

Shamim Nambasa was appointed Secretary for Finance and will oversee Kampala’s budgeting, revenue planning, and fiscal management.

Dr Judith Nalukwago was named Secretary for Social Services and will supervise health, education, and community welfare programs across the city.

Meanwhile, Godfrey Luyombya was appointed Secretary for Civil Works and Physical Planning, taking charge of infrastructure development, urban planning, and city works.

The newly formed Kampala executive committee is expected to play a central role in shaping the city administration’s agenda on service delivery, governance, and urban development.

Speaking during the unveiling, Balimwezo urged the committee members to prioritize unity, accountability, and inclusive leadership while serving Kampala residents.

“We must serve all people of Kampala regardless of their political affiliation; leadership is about improving lives and delivering services to the citizens,” Balimwezo said.

The appointments come at a time when Kampala continues to face growing challenges related to infrastructure, service delivery, traffic congestion, and urban management. The new executive committee is expected to address these issues as part of its leadership mandate.
