BREAKING: Shock as School Bus Carrying Pupils Crashes in Kapchorwa, Several Feared Dead

A school bus carrying pupils of King David Junior School, Ndejje, has crashed in Kapchorwa District, leaving an unspecified number of people feared dead and others injured.

The accident occurred at around 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 16, 2026, in Chekwatit Village, Kimawa Parish, Kawowo Sub-county, according to police.

The bus, registration number UA 108BQ, was reportedly transporting the pupils for a school field trip when the crash occurred.

Police and other emergency responders were dispatched to the scene to conduct rescue operations and establish the number of casualties.

Michael Kananura, the spokesperson for the Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety, said the exact number of fatalities and injuries had not yet been confirmed.

“Police and other emergency responders are at the scene carrying out rescue operations and establishing the number of casualties and injured persons,” Kananura said.

He added that more information would be released as it became available.

Images from the scene showed the severely damaged bus, highlighting the seriousness of the crash. The cause of the accident had not immediately been established.

Authorities are expected to provide further updates as rescue operations continue and the identities and number of casualties are confirmed.
