Mukono Robbery Gang Busted as Police Arrest Alleged Ringleader and Recover Suspected Stolen Property
MUKONO, Uganda – Police in Kampala Metropolitan East have dismantled a suspected criminal gang linked to a series of violent robberies in Mukono Municipality and surrounding areas, leading to the arrest of six suspects, including an alleged ringleader.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police East, the gang had been terrorizing residents in areas such as Kayunga Road, Kusatu, Nasuuti, and Wantoni. The suspects allegedly attacked victims using dangerous weapons, including knives, pangas, and pavers, before stealing valuables such as mobile phones, cash, laptops, bags, and wristwatches.
The operation followed multiple reports of aggravated robberies, including an incident involving a technician who was attacked and robbed while returning home. The case was registered at Mukono Central Police Station on May 25, 2026, under SD Reference No. 04/25/05/2026, prompting intensified investigations by detectives.
Police said intelligence-led operations conducted on May 31 resulted in the arrest of 25-year-old Muhanguzi Vian. During questioning, the suspect reportedly admitted involvement in several robberies and provided information that helped investigators identify other members of the gang.
Muhanguzi allegedly guided officers to a hideout in Kigombya Cell, where gang members were said to spend their days before carrying out robberies at night.
The operation led to the arrest of five additional suspects identified as Mubiru David, also known as “City,” aged 20; Kizito Solomon, alias “Kitama,” aged 18; Ssemanda Junior, alias “Kamese,” a 17-year-old juvenile; Muyomba Paul, alias “Matama,” aged 17; and Okumu Mark, alias “Sekere,” aged 18.
Investigators revealed that the suspects allegedly confessed to participating in numerous robberies across Mukono Municipality, claiming they could no longer recall the number of victims they had targeted.
During a search of the hideout, police recovered several items believed to be linked to criminal activities. The recovered exhibits included a Burdizzo, a pruning machine, a hammer, scissors, six wristwatches, suspected opium, counterfeit currency notes in denominations of UGX 20,000 and UGX 50,000, 18 SIM cards, a torch, face masks, heavy-duty door cutters, eight knives including a butterfly knife, and several phone chargers.
Further investigations led to the arrest of Lubanga Brian, commonly known as “2PAC,” whom police identified as the suspected leader of the gang.
Authorities say investigations are ongoing to track down additional suspects and establish whether the group is connected to other robbery incidents reported across the greater Mukono area.
Kampala Metropolitan Police East commended residents who provided information that contributed to the successful operation and urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue reporting suspicious activities to security agencies.
