UAE Suspends New Visas for Uganda, DRC and South Sudan Amid Ebola Precaution Measures
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced new travel restrictions affecting citizens and travellers from Uganda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), and South Sudan as part of efforts to prevent the potential spread of Ebola and strengthen national health security.
The measures were jointly issued by the UAE’s National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority (NCEMA) and the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP). Officials said the decision reflects the country’s proactive approach to monitoring global health developments and protecting public safety.
Under the new directive, the UAE will suspend the issuance of all new visas, including visit visas, for nationals of Uganda, the DRC, and South Sudan. Authorities also announced that entry into the UAE will be restricted for travellers arriving directly from or transiting through the three countries before reaching the Emirates.
However, UAE officials clarified that exemptions will apply to travellers who have remained outside Uganda, the DRC, and South Sudan for more than 21 consecutive days before travelling to the UAE. Such individuals will be permitted to enter the country in accordance with existing immigration procedures.
The new restrictions are scheduled to take effect at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2026. Authorities indicated that the measures will be subject to ongoing review and could be adjusted depending on developments related to the Ebola situation and global public health assessments.
Despite the visa suspension and travel limitations, the UAE confirmed that commercial cargo operations between the Emirates and the affected countries will continue without disruption. Transit flights will also remain operational to support international trade, logistics, and air travel connectivity.
The announcement comes as governments worldwide continue to monitor Ebola-related developments and implement preventive measures aimed at reducing the risk of cross-border transmission.
