10-Year-Old Missouri Boy Found Dead in Pond After Allegedly Sleepwalking From Home

A 10-year-old boy who was reported missing after allegedly sleepwalking out of his Missouri home has been found dead in a nearby pond, police have confirmed.

Jackson S. Georgari disappeared shortly before midnight on Thursday, July 9, after he was last seen wearing a gray T-shirt and gray shorts. According to the Kansas City Missouri Police Department (KCPD), investigators believe the child may have sleepwalked out of his residence.

Authorities immediately issued a missing person alert, noting that Jackson had a history of sleepwalking but had no diagnosed medical conditions.

Family Says Boy Had Sleepwalked Before

Jackson’s family revealed that this was not the first time he had wandered away while asleep.

His sister, Semina Richard, told local media that the first incident happened while the family lived in San Diego, California.

“Someone found him walking on the street and called 911. He was brought back home safely,” she said.

After relocating to Missouri, Jackson reportedly wandered away again, eventually making his way to his school because it was one of the few places he recognized.

His sisters believe he likely followed familiar paths near wooded areas, streams and ponds that he had seen during his school bus rides.

Search Ends in Tragedy

Hours after the search began, the Kansas City Missouri Police Department announced a heartbreaking update.

Jackson was found unresponsive in a large pond near Briarcliff Village on North Mulberry shortly after noon on Thursday.

Emergency fire and rescue crews immediately attempted lifesaving measures at the scene but were unable to revive him. He was pronounced dead at the location.

Police Launch Death Investigation

Kansas City police have now opened a death investigation following the discovery of Jackson’s body.

Investigators said there were no immediate signs of foul play, and the official cause and manner of death will be determined by the medical examiner after an autopsy.

KCPD Captain Jake Becchina described the pond where Jackson was found as “very large” and expressed sympathy for the grieving family.

“It’s not an update we ever want to provide, and it’s truly unfortunate,” Becchina said. “I really feel for the family involved. They went to bed last night, and everything was normal, and today they have to deal with this unimaginable tragedy.”
