Detectives have arrested a 23-year-old man suspected of brutally killing 18-year-old Joy Wangui, a Form Four student at Molo Senior School, following a shocking attack at her family home in the Kiambaa area of Nakuru County.
Officers from Molo, collaborating with the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) based at the Rift Valley Regional Criminal Investigations Headquarters, tracked down the suspect, Walter Kipkoech, to a hideout in Lagwenda village, Kuresoi North.
Kipkoech allegedly fled the scene immediately after the killing in Kiambaa, Moto Location. Wangui’s younger brother discovered her body inside the family kitchen in a pool of blood after returning from the family’s nearby shop. In a horrifying discovery, investigators located her severed head nearby in a corridor leading to the bathroom.
The murder drew shocked neighbors and relatives to the homestead on Monday morning as news of the attack spread throughout the community.
Chilling Evidence and Message Found at the Scene
Molo Sub-County Police Commander Justus Katana confirmed that police received a tip-off from members of the public around 2:00 PM on Sunday reporting the murder in Moto village.
Detectives processing the scene recovered several weapons covered in bloodstains near the body, including an axe, a panga, and two knives.
In addition to the physical evidence, investigators discovered a chilling message written on the corridor wall in blood near the victim’s severed head:
“I love you Joy but never cheat, am sorry.”
Preliminary inquiries established that Kipkoech was Wangui’s boyfriend, leading homicide detectives to focus on a romantic dispute as the primary motive behind the killing.
Suspect Apprehended in Blood-Stained Clothing
When officers arrested Kipkoech at his hideout, he was reportedly wearing a blood-stained boxer, a white T-shirt bearing the victim’s name along the hem, and black jeans marked with dried bloodstains.
Police escorted the suspect to Molo Police Station for processing ahead of his court arraignment as detectives continue to reconstruct the sequence of events.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) extended its condolences to Wangui’s family, friends, and school community, reassuring the public that investigators will pursue all angles to ensure full accountability under the law.
