Anita Among’s Parliament Office Sealed Off as Investigators Declare Crime Scene

Tensions remained high at Uganda’s Parliament on Tuesday after investigators sealed off the office of former Speaker of Parliament Anita Among and declared it a crime scene amid widening corruption and money laundering investigations.

The operation, which began at around 9:30 a.m., involved more than 20 police detectives who split into multiple teams before entering key parliamentary offices. Areas searched included the Speaker’s chamber, the Clerk to Parliament’s office, the Parliamentary External Auditor’s office, and the communications department.

Security officers blocked journalists from accessing the affected sections as the high-profile investigation unfolded inside Parliament premises.

Prominent city lawyer Caleb Alaka, who is leading Among’s legal defence team, arrived shortly after the operation started and proceeded directly to the Speaker’s chamber.

“There are several final narratives. We’ll issue a statement on what’s going on. My client is okay,” Alaka told reporters, declining to provide further details about the investigation.

Anita Among’s Offices Sealed as Crime Scene

By midday, several offices on Parliament’s fifth floor, including Among’s chamber, had officially been sealed off and marked as crime scenes by investigators.

Plainclothes security operatives were seen moving in and out of the building throughout the day while detectives continued gathering evidence. Most sections of Parliament remained inaccessible, with only a limited number of staff members allowed into unaffected offices.

Although some employees attempted to continue with normal duties, tension remained visible across the parliamentary premises as uncertainty grew over the scope of the investigation and the possibility of additional arrests.

Heavy security deployment remained in place during the operation, with soldiers and police officers stationed at all major entrances to Parliament. Several Members of Parliament from both the 11th and 12th Parliament were spotted entering and leaving the premises, though most declined to comment publicly.

Investigations Expand Beyond Parliament

The latest search marks the fourth consecutive day of operations linked to Anita Among. Detectives have already conducted searches at properties associated with her in Nakaseke, Kigo, and Ntinda.

While security agencies have not yet issued an official statement regarding the ongoing investigation, sources close to the probe say investigators are examining alleged financial networks, procurement deals, and suspected links involving politically connected individuals within Parliament and government ministries.

The investigation into alleged corruption, money laundering, and illicit enrichment continues to widen, drawing significant public and political attention across Uganda.

Meanwhile, Chief of Defence Forces Muhoozi Kainerugaba recently stated that the ongoing anti-corruption operation would spare no one except President Yoweri Museveni and First Lady Janet Museveni.
