Police Explain Kiseka Market Daytime Shooting in Kampala CBD

KAMPALA — Police have explained the circumstances surrounding a shooting incident at Kiseka Market in Kampala’s Central Business District after a video showing armed security officers firing gunshots went viral on social media.

According to Police Spokesperson ACP Kituuma Rusoke, the incident occurred on Monday, July 20, 2026, at around 6:00 p.m. in Nakivubo Cell, Nakasero III Ward, within Kampala CBD.

Kituuma said the viral video shows armed security officers firing warning shots into the air during a security operation at the Original Kiseka Spare Centre in Kiseka Market.

The police spokesperson explained that the security team had gone to the market to arrest suspected offenders. However, the operation was reportedly disrupted after a group of individuals became violent and attempted to obstruct the lawful arrest of the suspects.

“To disperse the unruly crowd and restore order, the officers fired warning shots into the air,” Kituuma said.

Police said the situation was later brought under control, allowing the officers to complete the operation. Two suspects were successfully arrested during the incident.

The clarification comes amid growing public concern over the widely circulated footage, which showed armed men firing shots in the busy Kampala market area.

Police have urged the public to rely on verified information as investigations and security operations continue.
