A tragic road accident has claimed the lives of at least 11 people along the busy Masaka–Mbarara Highway, raising fresh concerns over road safety on one of Uganda’s major transport routes.
The fatal crash, which occurred earlier today, involved multiple vehicles, according to preliminary reports from traffic authorities. Eyewitnesses say the collision was severe, leaving several victims dead on the spot and others critically injured.
Emergency responders and police officers quickly arrived at the scene to rescue survivors and transport the injured to nearby health facilities for urgent medical attention.
Authorities have yet to release the identities of the deceased as efforts continue to notify next of kin. Investigations into the cause of the accident are underway, with early indications pointing to possible reckless driving and poor road conditions.
The Uganda Police Force has urged motorists to exercise caution, adhere to traffic regulations, and avoid speeding, especially on highways known for frequent accidents.
