CDF Gen. Muhoozi Commissions New Military Aircraft to Boost UPDF Air Force
The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has commissioned a new fleet of military aircraft aimed at strengthening the operational capability of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) Air Force.
The commissioning ceremony marks another milestone in Uganda’s efforts to modernize its military and improve the country’s air defence, surveillance, and rapid response capabilities.
New Aircraft to Strengthen National Security
Speaking during the commissioning, Gen. Muhoozi said the acquisition of the new aircraft reflects the UPDF’s commitment to building a modern, professional and highly capable air force capable of responding to evolving security challenges.
He noted that the additional aircraft will improve the Air Force’s ability to conduct a wide range of operations, including national defence, border surveillance, emergency response, troop deployment, humanitarian missions and disaster relief.
According to the CDF, investing in modern air assets is essential to safeguarding Uganda’s territorial integrity and supporting regional peace and security operations.
Modernisation of the UPDF
The commissioning forms part of the UPDF’s broader modernization programme aimed at equipping the armed forces with advanced technology and improving operational readiness.
Military officials said the new aircraft will enhance mobility, reconnaissance capabilities and logistical support for both domestic and regional operations.
The investment is also expected to strengthen the Air Force’s ability to respond rapidly to emergencies and support joint operations with other security agencies.
Commitment to Professionalism
Gen. Muhoozi urged Air Force personnel to maintain the highest standards of professionalism, discipline and accountability while operating and maintaining the newly commissioned aircraft.
He emphasized that advanced military equipment must be handled responsibly to ensure maximum operational efficiency and longevity.
The CDF also commended the engineers, pilots and technical teams responsible for maintaining the Air Force’s growing fleet, describing their role as critical to Uganda’s national security.
Enhancing Regional Security
The new aircraft are expected to improve Uganda’s contribution to regional peacekeeping and counterterrorism operations, where air mobility plays a vital role in supporting ground forces.
Military analysts say enhanced air capabilities will strengthen the UPDF’s ability to respond quickly to emerging threats while supporting humanitarian and rescue missions during natural disasters and other emergencies.
Continued Investment in Defence
The commissioning underscores the government’s continued investment in strengthening Uganda’s defence capabilities through modernization of military equipment and infrastructure.
Officials say the expanded Air Force fleet will enhance operational readiness, improve national security and reinforce the UPDF’s ability to protect Uganda’s interests both at home and within the region.
