Mukono Police Arrest Suspected Serial Motorcycle Robber, Recover Weapons and Motorcycle Parts
Police in Mukono District have arrested a man suspected of masterminding a series of motorcycle robberies targeting boda boda riders in Kasawo Sub-county.
The suspect, identified as Julius Kyeyune, also known as Kavuma, was apprehended during a police operation conducted on June 20, 2026, in Kakira Village under Nagalama Police Division.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Rachel Kawala, the arrest followed intelligence-led investigations into a string of motorcycle thefts reported by boda boda riders operating in and around Kasawo.
Suspect Allegedly Posed as Passenger
Preliminary investigations indicate that Kyeyune allegedly disguised himself as an ordinary passenger seeking transport services from boda boda riders in areas outside Kasawo.
Police say he would hire riders and request transportation to Kasawo before directing them to isolated locations in Kakira Village, particularly near vast sugarcane plantations.
Upon reaching the secluded areas, the suspect allegedly robbed the riders of their motorcycles and fled the scene.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect would travel to locations outside Kasawo and pose as a passenger seeking transportation to Kasawo. Upon arrival, he would allegedly direct the boda boda rider to an isolated area within Kakira Village where he would rob the rider of his motorcycle,” Kawala said.
Police Recover Motorcycle Parts and Suspected Crime Tools
Following the arrest, detectives conducted a search at the suspect’s residence and recovered several items believed to be connected to criminal activities.
Among the recovered exhibits were metal bars, cutters, pangas, motorcycle spare parts, helmets, and other tools commonly associated with housebreaking and theft.
Police also recovered motorcycle number plate UGB 722Q, which is suspected to belong to a stolen motorcycle that has not yet been identified.
Investigators further recovered materials believed to be used in the manufacture of forged number plates, raising concerns about a possible motorcycle theft and fraud syndicate operating in the area.
AK-47 Ammunition Recovered
In addition to motorcycle-related exhibits, officers recovered two AK-47 rifle cartridges, several mobile phones, old motorcycle inner tubes, jackets, and two driving permits.
Police say all recovered items have been secured as exhibits to support ongoing investigations.
“The recovered exhibits have been secured to aid ongoing investigations. Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend other suspects believed to be connected to the criminal activities,” Kawala added.
Hunt for More Suspects Continues
Authorities believe Kyeyune may be part of a wider criminal network involved in motorcycle robberies and related crimes within Mukono District and neighboring areas.
Police have intensified investigations to identify additional suspects and recover more stolen motorcycles.
The arrest comes amid increased security operations targeting criminal gangs that prey on boda boda riders, who remain among the most vulnerable groups to robbery attacks in Uganda.
