Kampala Police Praise Sniffer Dog After Recovering Stolen TV Set

Sniffer Dog Helps Kampala Police Recover Stolen TV, Two Suspects Arrested in Nateete

Police in Nateete have arrested two suspects in connection with a housebreaking and theft case after a sniffer dog helped investigators recover a stolen television set.

The suspects, identified as Sseguya Mike and Lukyamuzi Godfrey, are currently being held as detectives continue investigations into the theft and possible links to other criminal activities in the area.

According to a police statement issued on June 19, 2026, the incident was reported after a resident returned home from work and discovered that unknown individuals had broken into her house and stolen several valuables, including a television set, laptop computer, and an undisclosed amount of cash.

The victim reportedly left her residence in the morning and returned at around 6:00 p.m., only to find that burglars had gained entry by cutting through part of the bedroom wall before making away with the property.

She immediately reported the matter to Wamala Police Station, prompting officers to launch an investigation and request support from the K9 unit attached to Nateete Police Station.

Police Dog Tracks Suspects

A police sniffer dog named Bruce was deployed to the crime scene and successfully picked up a scent believed to have been left behind by the suspects.

Investigators said the dog followed the trail to a perimeter wall where officers discovered footprints believed to have been used as an escape route by the thieves.

After crossing to the opposite side of the wall, Bruce continued tracking the scent and eventually led officers to a residence occupied by the two suspects. The dog signaled the location by sitting at the entrance, prompting police to conduct a search.

Stolen Television Recovered

During the search operation, officers recovered the stolen television set, which was later positively identified by the complainant as part of the property stolen during the break-in.

The recovery provided a major breakthrough in the investigation and led to the arrest of the two suspects.

Police say inquiries are ongoing to determine whether Sseguya and Lukyamuzi may be connected to other cases of housebreaking, theft, and robbery reported in Nateete and surrounding areas.

Authorities have praised the role of the K9 unit in solving the case and reaffirmed their commitment to using advanced investigative methods to combat crime and recover stolen property.
